Computer & Research Labs


 

Introduction

Computer and Research Labs are primarily designed to enhance the teaching and learning goals for currently enrolled students and staff of JCU. ICT office is responsible for the installation, maintenance, licensing and ensuring availability of software installed as a part of the Standard Operating Environment.

 

Using the Lab facilities

To access these facilities, you need to login with your computer account and password.

  • Your unique login name usually takes the form of jc123456 or fac-abc.
  • Your password will be alphanumeric like this x6TfUb8v.

 

Standard Hardware & Software

There is a range of software applications and utilities installed on all workstations and all students and staff have access to these packages.

Teaching Software

Academic Staff who require teaching software in the Labs should submit a request through the ICT Help Desk. If new purchases are required, contact us once the purchase via TenderBoard is duly approved and complete.

Note: Inform ICT staff about Software and Hardware requirement 4 weeks prior to the term start to ensure its availability. Any delay will affect the setup of Labs once the term begins.

 

Amazon Web Services

JCU has signed up with AWS Academy and AWS Educate to access resources for cloud-related learning. IT Students and Lecturers can also request for AWS Workspaces to immediately have access to the computing power they needed able to experiment and innovate.

IT Students and Lecturers can sign up with AWS Educate at no cost to access AWS console with built-in credits valid for 12 months. More details are available if you contact ICT Help Desk.

 

Conditions of Use

  • Only currently enrolled students or University staff are allowed in these facilities.

  • Backup of student files is the responsibility of that student.

  • The University bears no responsibility for lost, damaged, or stolen media, such as disks or USB devices, used in the facilities.

  • Refer to the incidents page for any system downtime for maintenance or closures.
